Submission Criteria and About Film Genius 2016

A great opportunity to have your film screened publicly and added to your IMDB account or simply to sony-1455032_960_720get hands on in film making.

Whether you are filming a 60 second short on your iPhone or a 20 minute episode on your camcorder all entries considered as long as they meet they criteria set:

  • All films must be certificate 12A.
  • To be publicly screened at KingCon October 22nd & 23rd.
  • If you are under 16 years of age your entry is free! Proof of age must be provided.
  • If you are a Teesside University student your entry is free. Proof to be provided.
  • If you are a Sunderland University student your entry is free. Proof to be provided.
  • If you are a Darlington College student your entry is free. Proof to be provided.
  • Entry in to the Fan Film Festival does not grant entry in to the event, if you wish to see the screenings you will be required to purchase a ticket to the event.If you choose not to attend and are one of our winners you will be notified via email.
  • It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to secure authorisation and permission from the copyright owner(s) of
    any and all copyrighted content or materials included within the submitted Film. KingCon clearly disavows
    any responsibility for, and will not be held responsible for, any unauthorised inclusion of any copyrighted content
    or materials within or relating to the submitted Film, including any content or materials that are or may become
    the basis for any third party claims for copyright infringement. KingCon reserves the right to disqualify,
    without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film with any
    unauthorised inclusion of copyrighted content or materials.
  • It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to clear all content of the Film from any and all actual or potential legal
    claims and issues, including, without limitation, claims based upon theories of libel, defamation, invasion of
    privacy, violation of rights of publicity, theft of trade secrets, breach of confidence, breach of confidential
    relationship, and breach of express or implied contract.
  • Applicants submitting Films that contain significant non-English spoken dialogue must provide on-screen English
    subtitles.
  • All Films must be submitted to the Institute on a single disc (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-R
    DL, DVD+R DL, or Blu-ray) or uploaded via the Secure Online Screener function of Withoutabox.
  • KingCon reserve the right to refuse to screen any film they feel does not represent the stipulations set in place, infringes on copyright or otherwise defamatory to the event or people involved, retaining the fee.

Deadlines and prices are as follows:

    60 Seconds £4, Under 10 minutes £8, Over 10 minutes £12
  • Deadline Submissions 24th September 2016 – 30th September 2016 23:59;
    60 Seconds £5, Under 10 Minutes £10, Over 10 Minutes £15
  • Late Submissions 1st October 2016 – 8th October 2016 23:59;
    60 Seconds £6, Under 10 Minutes £12, Over 10 Minutes £18

    Paying applicants can send in a second submission for half price.

Winners to be determined by a panel consisting of 2 judges from KingCon & Dark Matter Café/ 2 judges from EzeAsPi Productions/ 2 judges from zone sponsor.

Winners to be chosen after the last submission deadline has passed on an evening leading up to the convention.

Winners to be announced during KingCon, Sunday October 23rd.

Remember you can literally film your creation using anything! iPhone, Camcorder, Cinefilm, it’s up to you! Production quality isn’t always a winner, we look for creative flare, ingenuity and innovation!
